Pitch Tracking App for High School Baseball Programs
Pitch MetRx is a no-hardware pitch tracking app for high school baseball and softball programs: coaches chart pitch type, location, count and outcome live from the dugout on any phone, tablet or laptop browser, then see which pitches and locations are actually working.
No radar gun or sensor is required. If you have a radar reading, you can type MPH in by hand; Pitch MetRx does not measure velocity or spin.
What high school staffs need from a pitch tracking app
A high school staff needs an app that logs the right fields fast and runs on the devices you already carry. Pitch MetRx captures five fields on every pitch: pitch type, location, count, outcome and batter hand. MPH is optional and typed by hand. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or laptop (Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android) and can be added to your home screen. You don’t need hardware, a sensor budget or an App Store download. It does need a data connection.
How a high school staff uses Pitch MetRx on game day
- Before the game. Set your lineup and load the opposing roster from Opposing Rosters and Lineups.
- During the game. Chart each pitch from the dugout. The charting screen shows a live total pitch count and strikes for the pitcher on the mound.
- Between innings. See BAA, WHIFF%, K%, first-pitch strike % (FPS%), SLG% and “2 out of 3” by pitch type and location, so you can adjust the next inning’s plan.
- After the last out. Open the full game report.
Bullpen days: practice command, not radar
On bullpen days, use Pitch MetRx Bullpen. Draw the intended target on a Target Map, tap where the pitch crossed, and read accuracy, strike % and miss tendency. Session and lifetime views show whether command is improving across the season, and PDF or CSV exports let you share sessions with pitchers. Bullpen doesn’t measure velocity, and bullpen strike % is a practice number, not a game stat.
Pitch counts and arm care
In high school baseball, NFHS rules require every state association to set a pitch-count limit and rest-day policy (for example, CIF’s varsity limit is 110 pitches per game). Pitch MetRx logs every pitch, so you have an accurate count to check against your state’s rules, and the charting screen shows each pitcher’s live total as the game goes. Pitch MetRx isn’t the official count. Your head coach’s and the umpire’s counts still rule.
Scouting and pitch calling for league play
League play rewards preparation. Build scouting reports on opponents you’ll see again, use Pitch Call Analysis to check which calls worked, and review hitter tendencies with spray charts. Programs that call pitches from the dugout, without or alongside electronic systems, can print wristband play call cards.
Pitch MetRx also includes AI summaries of your game, season and pitch-call reports, and AI Scouting Reports, which build a pre-game attack plan for an opposing team or batter from the games you’ve charted against them.
Pitch MetRx vs. radar, sensors, paper, and counters
| Option | What it captures | Hardware | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Radar / sensor systems | Velocity, spin, movement | Yes | Measured ball-flight data |
| Paper charts | Whatever you mark by hand | No | Starting out; hard to total across weeks |
| Pitch counters | Pitch totals, balls/strikes | No | Workload tallies only |
| Pitch MetRx | Type, location, count, outcome, batter hand, plus reports | No | Live game charting and coaching decisions |
Hardware measures how the ball moved. Pitch MetRx records what the coach called and saw, plus the outcome, and turns it into reports. See the pitch tracking app and pitch charting app pages, or the guides to baseball and softball pitch charting.
