A lineup is today’s batting order—not a saved roster. Pitch MetRx shows the current hitter like #12 Smith · 3-Spot (RH), advances the order after each plate appearance, and stores batter names on every pitch so reports and scouting can filter by the actual person in the box.
What live lineups give pitch callers
Attach a saved opposing roster at game setup, or choose Fill new Lineup during game without a roster when you do not have the order ahead of time. Either way, the live game keeps a snapshot so later roster edits do not rewrite history.
Batting-order spots
Lead-Off through 9-Spot (and extra hitters up to 20). After the last spot, use Add Batter or Return to Top of Order—then the app wraps for the rest of that game.
Add Batter
Jersey # required; name and stance optional. Select from recorded players for that team when a roster exists. New players can update the existing roster after you confirm.
Pinch hitter / replacement
Replace a filled spot mid-game. If that spot is at the plate, the live batter updates immediately. Stance prompts appear only when stance is missing.
View Lineup
Open Current Game Lineup to see the ordered list, edit entered batters, and save new players back to the opponent roster.
End At-Bat
Close a plate appearance that never got a pitch outcome (for example, a runner thrown out stealing for the third out). Choose this batter up again or next batter.
Report filters
Mid-game, post-game, lifetime, and custom reports filter by All / RH / LH plus per-batter lineup buttons when a lineup was used.
How it works in the dugout
- Start or schedule a game and choose a saved team roster, fill a new lineup during the game, or keep sequential Batter #.
- Chart each pitch as usual—type, location, outcome, count. The current batter and plate-appearance # stay on screen.
- Advance the order after a walk, strikeout, hit, out, HBP, or Next Batter. Stance comes from the lineup when it is already entered.
- Handle substitutions with Pinch Hitter / Replacement or Add Batter for a new spot.
- Insert a relief pitcher without resetting the batting order—batter history continues for team scouting.
- Review by hitter in reports, then generate a scouting report from named-batter history.
Built for real game situations
More than nine batters
Lineups may include extra hitters (up to 20). Add a new spot when a tenth batter appears instead of forcing a nine-spot wrap too early.
Same name, two spots
In a friendly or showcase, confirm to put the same named batter in two spots. Plate appearances combine in stats and scouting. Saved rosters stay unique (one row per person).
Relief outings
Insert Relief Pitcher ends the current outing and continues live scoring. Reliever stats start fresh; the batting order continues.
Still optional
Skip the lineup and chart with sequential Batter # and RH/LH prompts. Named lineups are there when you want hitter-level history.

What is a lineup in Pitch MetRx?
A lineup is today’s batting order in a live game—spots such as Lead-Off, 3-Spot, and 9-Spot. The current batter shows name, jersey, slot, and stance, plus plate-appearance number for this game. A saved opposing roster is the reusable player list you can attach at setup.
Do I have to build a roster before I can use a lineup?
No. Choose Fill new Lineup during game without a roster on New Game Setup. The game starts with empty batting slots; use Add Batter as each hitter appears (jersey number required; name and stance optional).
Can I use a pinch hitter mid-game?
Yes. Pinch Hitter / Replacement replaces a filled batting spot. If that spot is currently batting, the live batter updates immediately. A new player who is not on the saved roster can be added to the existing opposing roster after you confirm.
Can I still chart without a lineup?
Yes. If no lineup is selected, Pitch MetRx uses sequential Batter # and prompts for RH/LH each plate appearance. Pinch hitter and View Lineup controls stay hidden in that mode.
Do lineups work for baseball and softball?
Yes. The same live-order workflow works for both sports. Stance (LH/RH) is what reports and scouting use for matchup splits—not sport-specific batting-order rules.
